Blue islands AMAMI #2

It takes only 10 minutes by car from Amami airport to our nest; the cottage we always stay. It's water front facing to a bay and it is like a private beach! You can reach to surf point only 3 minutes on foot and checking waves from the terrace of cottage is really possible. If the swell is enough, small waves come to the beach in front of the cottage. There is a low height of seawall and you can enjoy fishing there. The visibility of sea is perfect. Snorkeling, fishing and surfing are enjoyable there, yes it's a heavenly blue island for marine sports, too.

30,000 people live in the island which is the same size as 23 wards of Tokyo. No subway, no bus and tax is only available in the downtown, so please book for a rental car in advance.

This island faces to 2 oceans; one side to the Pacific ocean and another side to the East China Sea and this is because this island has totally different view of water color and coastal line. Vivid blue of the Pacific ocean and deep warm navy blue of the East China sea... It is as if a perfect art of painting.

Let's drive around the island not to miss the sunset at the Ohama beach facing to the East China sea.

Night falls, it's time to the night adventure into the forest! Please don't go into the forest by yourself, Make an appointment of tour guide for sure!

Primeval forest is very sacred and mysterious. The tour guide drives a car very slowly into the forest. New moon night is the best timing to visit there. Full moon night is not a bit appropriate because animals in the forest tend to get exciting at the full moon. The Amani is called as the Galapagos in the East because there are rich source of various rare or endemic species botanicals and animals. If you are luck, barringtonia flowers that bloom once a year only welcome you at the entrance of forest. This flower message is "Happy will come to you"... what a lovely message!

It's a treasure island of rare species. Asian musk shrew, Tokudaia osimensis, Diplothrix legata which are all endangered spices, they are in the forest. And black rabbits which is also endangered spice, it's so hard to see the black rabbit in the night because of black. So if you meet them, you are so lucky!

Bird watching in the night might sound strange though, Ryukyu scops owls (one of owls), Scolopax mira (this bird is not good at flying!) Lidith's Jay which has beautiful blue and purple wings are there.

Rykyu tree lizard, Amami origin endemic spices dragon fly, flogs.... it's so many treasure of botanicals, animals and insects. One hour forest tour is an average.

You see a sky full of starts above. If you want to wake up till late, just floating your body on the sea is the nicest healing under the moonlight..... you will sure to leave any worries and things being yourself and being a part of the big mother nature with much respect.

私たちがいつも滞在する秘密のコテージまで10分少々。すぐ前が小さな湾になっていて、まるでプライベー トビーチ。しかもサーフポイントはすぐお隣のビーチで徒歩3分ほど。コテージのテラスから波チェックが 可能だ。うねりがあえば、コテージ前にもいい波がたつ。小さな防波堤もあり、ここでは魚釣りが存分に楽 しめる。透明度は抜群なので、 シュノーケリングも楽しめる。 まさにマリンスポーツ天国 の”Bule Island”.

奄美は東京23区と同じ大き さでわずか3万人の人口。も ちろん地下鉄などなくタクシー も繁華街のみ。なので移動手 段は車のみ。レンタカーはあ らかじめ予約を。 想像以上に大きいこの島は太 平洋と東シナ海の両方の海に 面している。海の色、海岸線 ともにまったく違う風景が広 がる。太平洋の明るい目に刺 さるような”Bule”と東シナの紺碧の青。一刻、一刻色を変えていくそれぞれの海は、完璧な絵画の ようで、時間が経つのを忘れて見入ってしまう。島をぐるりとドライ ブするのもオススメ。東シナ海側の大浜海岸に沈む夕日は必見。 神秘の森へ 日が暮れたら、奄美ならではの夜のアドベンチャーが待ってい る。奄美が東洋のガラパゴスと呼べる由縁を確かめにいこう。

昼間の森を歩くのも楽しいが夜は一際、特別な時間を経験でき る。ちなみに森は原生林で恐竜がひょっこり現れても不思議で ない雰囲気。 奄美には多くの美しい鳥が生息するが、なかなか昼間はその声 は聞けても姿をあやかることが難しい。しかし、夜になれば彼 ら眠っているので、その姿を見つけやすいのだ。もちろん、生 体を知り尽くした奄美の山のガイドさんとともにその神秘の森 を体験することをオススメする。 真っ暗な森の入り口に夏の間しか咲かない”さがり花”が出迎えてくれる。花言葉は”幸せが訪れる” だそうだ。一年の一定の時期にしか咲かないこの 花にお目にかかれるのは何よりも”LUCKYだと思 わせてくれる。うっそうな森にゆっくりと運転を しながら入っていく。できれば、新月の夜がいい らしい。満月は明るすぎて、動物たちもそわそわ するらしく姿を現してくれないことが多いそう だ。特に出会いたいのは、絶滅危惧で特別 天然記念物に指定されている黒うさぎ。体 長わずか50cmほどで黒いので、闇夜で探 すのは困難だが、さすがガイドさんは出没場所をよくご存知なので、ラッキーだとその数時間 で何回もかわいらしいその姿をみることができる。 そのほか、ジャコウネズミ、アマミトゲネズミ、ケ ナガネズミとこれらも同じく絶滅危惧でここ奄美で しかおめにかかれないそうだ。夜のバードウッォッ チングというと少し変な感じだが、リュウキュウコノ ハズクと呼ばれるフクロウや鳥なのに飛ぶのがあま り得意でないアマミヤマシギ瑠璃色と赤紫の羽を持 つ美しい野鳥ルリカケス。繁殖期にはペアで行動す るので、夜も寄り添って眠る姿をみることができる。 昆虫の世界に目をむければ、リュウキュウトカゲ、奄美固有種のとんぼやかえる、さらにはetc...とにかくもうあげたらきりがないほど。1時間あまりの夜の森への冒険はあっという間。ふと見 上げた空は手が届きそうな満天の星。

まだまだ、眠くないという人は、月明かりで泳ぐのもいい。夜光虫がいれば、夜空の星に負けな いほど泳ぐたびにキラキラ光ってくれる。海に体を委ねて大の字になって浮かんでいると、心と体 の澱みたいなものが、流れでていくのを感じる。不思議なひととき。 奄美は島、すべてがパワースポット。 太古の昔から変わらぬ自然が、あなたを優しく抱きしめてくれるBule Island。 しばし、時間を忘れて地球の鼓動を感じにきませんか?
